How to Reach Tirthan Valley — From Delhi, Chandigarh & Manali

Tirthan Valley is off the main tourist highway, which is exactly why it stays quiet. Reaching it takes a little planning. Here is what you need to know.

From Chandigarh

About 260–280 km · 7–8 hours. Chandigarh → Kiratpur Sahib → Bilaspur → Mandi → Aut → Banjar → Gushaini. The four-lane highway and tunnels to Mandi make the first half fast. At Aut, do not enter the tunnel towards Kullu: take the turn towards Banjar.

From Delhi

About 500–510 km · 11–12 hours. Same route via Chandigarh and Mandi. We recommend splitting it: leave early, and avoid driving the mountain stretch after dark. Many guests break the journey in Chandigarh or Mandi.

From Manali

About 100 km · 3–3.5 hours. Manali → Kullu → Aut → Banjar → Gushaini. Easy to combine with a Manali trip.

Via Jalori Pass (seasonal)

A scenic alternative from Shimla via Narkanda and Jalori Pass (about 3,120 m). The pass usually closes from December to around mid-March because of snow, so in winter use the Aut route.

By Air

Bhuntar (Kullu–Manali) Airport is the nearest, about 50 km away, roughly 1.5–2 hours by taxi. Pre-book your taxi; we can arrange one.

By Bus

Take an overnight Volvo or HRTC bus towards Manali and get off at Aut, which buses usually reach early in the morning. From Aut it is about 30 km to Tirthan by taxi or local bus.

Road note: parts of the valley roads beyond Banjar are still being repaired after the 2025 monsoon, so the last stretch can be slow. WhatsApp us before you set off and we will share current conditions.
